Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've a 2000 Jetta,  I recently changed the alternator
, for some reason the battery won't hold a charge
and I have to get a jump , the battery is almost new
and I've checked, double checked the alternator is
hooked up correct , could it be the alarm as I've
had problems with it going off when I put the key in
the ignition , thanks
