1986 Toyota corolla le I have changed about 9 feet of vacumn hose had carb out and replaced main gasket to manifold.  when I press on gas pedle in town  slow driving  the car wants to stop running will coast running but as soon as I touch gas prdle it has a big miss.  thank you pam white eagle

I can not diagnose your car...sorry. really. Just too much guesswork. You need a mechanic. I know, easy for me to say, it's not my money but please please when you smell gasoline there is a risk of fire. Your 28 year old Corolla can be replaced. You can not be, and the risk and danger is very real.

check for gasoline leaking from the carb's accelerator pump when you push on the gas. sounds like it could be ruptured.

actually you may have 2 pump diaphagms. 1 with 4 screws and a 2nd with 3 screws. if either is leaking it will need to be replaced immediately. as david said , don't drive it.

Start by checking charging system sounds like breaking down Under load.ist guess alt. starting to fail but easy to check 12.5 idle 13.5 1000 rpm
