how do you know when to replace power steering pump

it depends on the symptoms. the power steering pump is also the pump for the hydraulic suspension. it could be bad if its making noise, leaking at the pump, or if there is no assist for the power steering could be an indication the pump needs to be replaced. If there is a message on the instrument cluster for the ABC system it could indicate a pump but there are a lot of other reasons the light could come on also.
