my SL 500 seems to be consuming extra fuel than normal,what could be the possibility?

my mercedes SL 500 is consuming too much fuel ,what could be the problem?
If i remove 2 plugs from the igmition kit,to drive it as a 6 cylinder,instead of 8
Cylinders,will it affect the engine?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! If you can't afford to put premium gas in it, you will be better off to sell it. It is 22 years old and has a lot of wear. You will be spending a lot of money on this in the future if you want to keep it running. sorry to give it to you so blunt but that is the fact.
