Alternator question

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 with a 5.9 liter Cummins. I have noticed that when I start the truck, that the alt gauge drops to zero but then takes about 10 seconds before it starts moving back up to normal reading. Is the alternator starting to go down?

It would not be alternator. If alternator was bad it would not charge the battery and car would not start. 2 seconds is normal but 10 is a little long. Try disconnecting battery for a few minutes to see if it will reset
