Brake controllers keep dying.

Asked by Hill Aug 02, 2015 at 09:46 AM about the 2006 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Mega Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

One night I noticed the light on my brake
controller stopped coming on when I
applied the brake (no trailer hooked up).
Connected the camper to the truck and
found that the trailer was getting no input
to brake. Changed the controller and it
worked for what appeared to be 5
minutes before that one too stopped
lighting up when I applied the brakes.

You said it worked for five minutes before going out again was that with the camper connected or not connected ? Check connections to camper from truck for corrosion and loose connections and anything else that looks out of place or not right.

Worked while camper was hooked up to test it. Un hooked the camper. Noticed it still would light up when brake was applied. Shortly there after I moved thetruck and unhooked the camper. Controller appearto die after that.

Check wire going to controller from brake switch and from controller going to rear wiring harness. Strange that it does not happen when camper is connected.
