98' dodge ram 1500 pickup...pulled into the garage, came out next morning and all it will do is turn over. There is no ignition...thought it might be a coil or fuel pump that has gone bad. Service guy at the Dodge dealership thinks it is the ignition module in the computer which will run anywhere from $400 to $1100 depending what VIN # it is...where is the fuel pump on this truck? Hopefully not in the tank...

Fuel pump is in tank. The first thing you can try is to check if you have spark by turning it over and spraying a little starter fluid in intake. If it runs you have spark and can now look at a fuel delivery problem. Fyi changing a fuel pump on these is not that bad.

Have you checked for spark? Pull the coil wire off the distributor and stick a screwdriver into the wire terminal. Lay the shaft close to the engine and turn over. You should get a fat spark up to a quarter of an inch if the coil is working right. If not, the problem is ignition and you'll have to diagnose from there. If you have spark, you can check the fuel pump by laying under the tank while an assistant turns the ignition on w/o cranking the engine. You should hear the pump run for about 5 seconds and shut off. Let us know what's happening with this and we'll take you further. Gook Luck!
