Compatible Transmissions - 97 and 98 Ram 1500s

Asked by bruteforce Feb 16, 2015 at 11:50 PM about the 1997 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie SLT Club Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 97 Ram 1500 4x2 and a 98 Ram 1500 4x4. The 98 is in great shape, but the
transmission is shot. The 97 is in horrible shape, but the Transmission is in great shape.
Any chance I can use the 97 4x2 trans in the 98 4x4 truck? ...Many Thanks

Hi Bruteforce, the easiest way to find out if it could be possible exchanged between the two different models is to call the nearest Junk Yard and ask if it is possible. Usually most Auto Mfr's will use interchangeable parts for a period of 3 to 4 Yrs in the assembly line. You could be lucky enough to benefit from this. Best of Luck in your search.
