how do I reset service engine soon light?

Asked by Aztec1943 Nov 10, 2015 at 03:35 PM about the 2002 Chevrolet S-10 LS Extended Cab 4WD

Was within 200 miles of oil change.  got oil changed but light still on.

That is your check engine light. It's not for oil changes. Get your codes read

The service engine soon light is for telling you that the oil is ready to change, hence SERVICE not check, my 04 Chevy after changing oil you turn ignition switch to the ON position and press accelerator to floor and let off 3 times to reset. The CHECK engine light comes on when the computer notices a code

Please fact check. It was common on gm vehicles specifically the s10. The check engine light says "service engine soon". They later went to the light we all know and love.
