1997 S10 . Tail lights dim when headlights are on.

Asked by GuruT2229 Jul 17, 2018 at 08:43 AM about the 1997 Chevrolet S-10 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Grandson just bought an old 1997 Chevy S10. It is not safe to drive at night
and he needs it for work.  The tail lights go very dim when headlights are on.
Brake lights and turn signals seem to work ok. Bulbs have been replaced but
problem persists...

I suspect the alternator is on it's way out (free to test at many auto parts stores) or the headlight switch assembly
