Noise when accelerating

Asked by Guru6D23D Mar 11, 2020 at 07:21 AM about the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer LTZ 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My trailblazer has been running well given its
age & mileage of 320,000. Recently it began
making a whooshing noise when
accelerating.
The mechanic thought it was & replaced the
air conditioning compressor. No change
when turning off the air or in a different gear.
Still noise. Any thoughts?

Sound like a big rig, or airplane taking off? Gets louder the faster you go?

Louder, yes especially when going up hills or standing on it when merging in heavy traffic. I'd say it's more like white noise. Don't hear it when it's in reserve.

Betting your fan clutch is staying engaged. VERY VERY common problem with our platform. While you're in there change the waterpump. By the way, after your fan clutch install, if you hear ticking, warranty it out and swap it out again. While there's nothing wrong with the ticking, it's annoying and shouldn't be doing that.

I have an 04 Trailblazer 4x4 4.2L that makes a wretched roaring noise with a strong vibration But only when its in Drive. In park you can't even hear it run. In drive with brake applied the roaring and vibration. In neutral with brakes applied no vibration and a light roaring
