My transmission popped out of gear when driving and will not engage. However, when I trun the vehicle on and off the transmission will engage for a few seconds. Then it would disengage again

This is a symptom of a bad transmission. Take in for a complete evaluation.

So, does this occur between shifts from 1st to second or what?
