What would cause the compressor to go on and off and not stay on when I have the air conditioner on. Just a little bit off cool air comes through.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I thought it needed refrigerant so I hooked up ac pro and when the compressor went on
the pressure went up when it went off the pressure went down. So there is enough
refrigerant but it does not cool the car.  The compressor goes on for a couple of seconds
and goes off for a couple.
