2004 Ford F 150 4.6 - Key won't unlock passenger door

Asked by Robert May 31, 2020 at 09:04 PM about the 2004 Ford F-150 STX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Placing the key in the lock, you don't feel or hear anything moving to unlock
the door.  However, you can unlock the door from the inside by pulling the
door handle.  I inherited the truck from my dad, so don't know a lot about it.
It does not have power locks from what I can tell, simply because there are
no power lock/unlock buttons in either of the doors.  I am guessing I will have
to pull the door cover off at some point but was wondering if anyone else has
had this problem.

Does the key turn back and forth? If so, remove the inside panel and see if the rod is attached to the inside mechanism. If it is, turn the key and see if the lever moves. If not, replace the lock. Not difficult.
