Power door locks and keyless entry on my 2000 Ford F-150, make a clicking noise when attempting to lock or unlock either door, but doesn't work! Also keyless entry does the same thing! What's up?

Sounds like it is responding to the switches but the actuators are not. That system has a self test capability. Testing should follow. Actuator replacement, if found to be at fault, requires replacement inside the doors. Try the service drive at your dealer to demonstrate and get their opinion.

While outside the vehicle depress the unlock button. Do the other doors unlock with just one not working? If it is just one offending door, watch the button as the key is depressed. If it jiggles or moves slightly then there is probably crud gumming up the mechanism within the door. Spray a direct stream of WD 40 directly onto the actuator. Sometimes this will work. Usually this happens to the drivers side door as this is the one most often used.

If it affects both doors then there may be a problem with the wiring. A loose connection may not be supplying enough voltage to operate the actuators.

At the Ford service drive they can reprogram the key fob, replacing the little batteries, to match the module code and the keyless issue can be addressed. Door actuators have a covering rubber expandable tube over the actuating rod for the actuator down inside the door. The actuator is slathered with lithium grease. Spraying penetrating oil down there would contaminate the expandable tube and create the possibility of water entry to the actuator. If programming issue is not found, there can be actuator or latch issue since keyless is also unable to actuate. Latches can be sprayed from outside with liquid white grease; If the doors were open and the operation of the parts was possible from the outside. return to the top of this page to reread the initial recommendation, please.
