trans. slips into neutral while driving

transmission goes into neutral and i must turn truck off, turn switch on dash from 2wd to 4wd and back to 2wd., restart truck and gears slip back into place. i can only do this with truck turned off, as it doesn't go back into gear with truck running.

ok sounds to me like its the t case not the trans either a weak motor or something but if the t case goes into nuetral the trans is still in gear try putin the trans in nuetral and flippin the 4wd switch see if that works if it does the trans is ok ur havin a t case problem is the check engine light comin on when this occurs?
