02 F250 7.3 cranks but won't start

Asked by Kevin Feb 18, 2019 at 07:52 PM about the 2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty Lariat Crew Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

02 F250 7.3 cranks but wont start. White smoke
while cranking, oil pressure is good, new fuel pump
definitely works, fresh oil change. Oil in the ICP
sensor plug so I'll replace that next, but wont start
with it unplugged, so not sure that's the problem.
Glow plugs replaced 1k miles ago, and even when
plugged in overnight still wont start. Was running
fine, just went out one morning and wouldn't start.
Sometimes sounds like it catches and tried to turn
over, but never fully starts. Batteries are fully
charged as well, only 6 months old. Fuel filter
changed after starting issues began as well.

"new fuel pump" Air in the lines? Have you tried starting fluid yet? I had the same problem with my cummins in the motor home and turned out to be the problem. I was getting fuel just the air kept it from starting.

I primed the pump to ensure no air was in it, but I haven't tried starting fluid yet. I can try that tomorrow. It was not starting before I replaced the pump.

That sounds like the glow plugs are not working.

They're only a month old, is there a component that controls them that could be the issue?

Okay, I jumped the glow plug relay and she started right up, but dies maybe 30 seconds after start. So I replaced the relay (why not, lol). But what the hell now, lol

Maybe the glow plug controller is the problem. Keep in mind that wiring for the glow plugs in in the valve cover gaskets.
