Have you heard of purging a fuel pump?

I had a fuel pump replaced and when I drove my car I heard a knocking on the
drivers side , was told the pump needed to purge and the knocking would
stop?

No,should not take but a few seconds to be primed up,should not be any knocking going on.

'Purge' means to empty out. Drain. Whomever told you that is mistaken.
