check engine light

i recently change my battery and now the check engine light is on, i never had a check
engine light until i replaced my battery.  how do i reset the check engine light?  also my
car was sitting for a couple of months would that cause this problem?

Autozone or Advance will scan the car for you for free. You could also get an OBD scanner and do it yourself, they run on the low end around $50.
