There is obviously not an outside temperature gauge, which I think is a huge oversight on
the part of Honda, but has anybody figured out whether there is a simple-to-install,
aftermarket option?

http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5733 there is a thread that says you can use one from a Honda Odyssey or later model Element....Amazon.com has aftermarket compass/thermometers for $120. Honda began putting them in the Element in 2009 as standard equip.

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/digital-compass-thermometer ...has a combo compass/digital thermometer for $14 but it looks cheap. Cheap I mean as low quality, mass produced in China, matter of fact the eBay ones are shipped directly from China
