2004 chevy malibu

My sister in law car will turn over and start
but it won't stay running.  It acts like it's not
getting enough gas to stay running. Not long
ago my brother change the filter. Was
wondering if anyone knows what could be
wrong with the car. I can't smell anything to
see if it's the cytlatic converter. Was
wondering if that would cause the car to act
like that or would it be the fuel pump itself??

One way to find out for sure is to remove the air intake tube from the throttle body. Open the butterfly door with the throttle cable mechanism and spray some starter fluid inside the throttle body. If it is the fuel pump, it will run long enough to burn the starter fluid, then immediately stall. Also Auto Zone and Advance Auto have loaner tools. Get a fuel pressure gauge and locate the port on the fuel rail. Crank the engine and measure the fuel pressure with the specs for that model.
