Strange issues; maybe electrical, please help?

Asked by TMurchison Oct 30, 2020 at 06:02 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last year, I was just driving down the road and hit a bump. As soon as I did,
the radio went off, I couldn't operate the front windows (the sun roof open as
do the back ones), 4wd stopped working, gas gauge stopped working and
the display showing what gear I'm in stopped as well. Through out the past
year, it will often come back on for about 5 minutes and then stops again. I
can get the radio to come on on occasion if I turn the ignition very slowly.
Any idea what this may be? I have a 2004 Avalanche z71

Go through the electrical system to make sure all connections are tight and clean. Be sure to include all the various ground points when you do this. Test as you go, looking for voltage and resistance changes before and after. Modern electrical systems are very sensitive an it only takes tiny deficiencies to cause bigger proglems. If you're not up to doing this yourself, find a shop that specializes in auto electrical and have them go through it.
