Why won't my 2005 Chevy Malibu LS stay running?

I was driving my 2005 chevy Malibu ls yesterday, drove for about 4 miles, cut off on me at stoplight. started back up was sputtering and seemed like it was missing. finally after driving about 9 miles this way, pulled over and then it wouldn't restart, turns over, I can hear the fuel pump engage when I turn the key but won't start.

Possible fuel pump. Have the fuel pressure checked to verify.
