My car won't start

I have a 2005 toyota matrix, The car wants to start but doesnt.. I replaced the battery today, brand new an replaced the spark plugs.. Ran codes before replacing the spark plugs an they were basically misfire codes an spark plug code. I really don't know much about cars so if I can get some knowledge on how to fix would be much appreciated. I smell gas when gassing it to try an start it but just won't start ??
