My reverse lights in a 2004 Corolla are not working- bulbs are fine, fuses are fine. What do I check next?

The position switch is in the shifter console,click to up size,

My car is a manual- is this still an effective answer? If so, how do I access this part of the vehicle?

I just assumed automatic,but here is a pic of what your,s looks like,it will be on the trainsmission .

Where on the transmission can I find this, and as someone who is not a mechanic (but with some mechanical skills) should I be messing with this or best to take it to a shop?
