Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1995 Toyota Camry LE with the 2.2L 5S-FE engine. The car now has 184,000 miles on it. About a 2 months ago, I noticed the engine would turn over fine, but afterwards, each time I start the car I get a check light and frequent stalling of the engine.  I have change the change the oil and filter, service the air filter, check the fuel filter, still the car stall almost twice daily.

My technician could not use his OBD2 scanner as he complained that mine came with a pre-OBD2 connector. How can the new OBD2 scanner be used on pre-obd2 connector, is there an adapter cable for it. Is there alternative to using the scanner to diagnose the fault?

Counting on your response please. Thank you and have a great day.

Time for a new mechanic. try you TPS or your crank sensor. and you might just need a complete tune up.

Agreed, there is a way to pull the codes without an OBD-II hookup, I don't know the procedure for a '95, but for a 1990 it involved jumping two connectors in the underhood ECM box which would cause the check engine light to flash a number of times to give you a "code" that you could translate with the use of a Haynes manual, or in your mechanic's case, Alldata.com or other mechanic's website.
