probably a bad fuel pump, try this get a friend over ,remove gas cap and listen in tank while the other turns keyswitch on and off 5 or 6 times do not try to crank.if no noise like a buzzing sound, your fuel pump is bad.relays very seldom go bad.

Actually if you HEAR the FUEL PUMP, doesn't necessarily mean it is pumping properly. It may be totally fried. Pull one of the supply hoses either near the tank or on the fuel rail (on regulator) then turn the key to position 2. If you hear the pump but no fuel comes out, the pump is bad.

I would not recommend Matt's idea of pulling off a fuel supply line on a fuel injected vehicle. Those lines should be pressurized at like 80 psi. Not good... For an old car it would be fine, but not for EFI. Get yourself an electrical tester and a buddy. Have your buddy turn it to start. Put the tester directly on the contacts at the tank. Getting 12 volts to the pump? If so, your relay is working fine. Relays are generally a less common failure than the pump or the filter.
