I'm just speculating.. I would think you can hook jumper cables to the corresponding cables (there's no battery AT ALL?) in your outback. Turn the ignition to "ON" and DO NOT try to start it (as I have no idea how stable that would be and it is pointless anyway IMO). Now, press down on the brake and you should be able to move the gear selector out of park. Now turn off the car, unplug your jumper cables. Then if you need to turn the wheel at all, put the keys back in and turn them to "ON" and your steering lock will be disabled. If you don't want to go the electrical route, you may be able to trace the gear cable to the transmission, take that apart and then move the selector on the transmission with pliers, two clicks. But that's a lot of hassle.. if you have mice, you may have snakes (venomous or not). Just be cautious.

Actually, I don't think that will solve your problem. I think you'd be better off with scattering D-CON underneath the car. It's easier. My stepson left our car in a maintenance yard back east for a winter and the field mice nested under the hood and ate through all the wires. We found out later that he did that and it destroyed our car. Don't let this happen to you. Good luck. Moving the car will not help you, mice and other vermin find these nesting sites very easily. Or park the car in an enclosed garage if you can. Good luck.
