Subaru Legacy delayed starting after a stall

Asked by Jeremy Sep 07, 2017 at 03:44 PM about the 1999 Subaru Legacy L Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Whenever the car stalls, it does not want to start straight away. The engine
doesn't turn over, and the starter doesn't do anything either. But, give it 10-20
seconds and it'll start up again happily. Tried it with it in gear and the clutch in,
then in neutral with both the clutch in and out, makes no difference. Any help
would be appreciated

Old Legs used distributors with an internal sensor that could become intermittent when overheated. Your description doesn't point to cam and crank sensors. Are you stalling just because of load upon clutch release...or is the idle circuitry failing? If the latter spray-clean the throttle body inner venturi carefully. And DO NOT depress the gas when restarting...but you know that already....
