Broken chip in ignition

Asked by Nikinicole Oct 12, 2016 at 02:53 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Lost key . Wrong key was put in the ignition.
Found right key.  Starting disabled due to
theft system light came on . Some where
along the line, somehow the chip beside the
key got broken.  A friend got new chip from
junk yard . Will the old key work still or
should I have gotten a key with the new chip
?
