Car just started lunging then losing power

My 2005 pontiac grand prix ran great all day
then all of a sudden started lunging then
losing power I barely got it back home..the
rpms kept going really high...what could this
be

First thing to do is look for any abnormalities like a loose spark plug wire or deteriorated distributor cap/rotor ( if equipped with them). If nothing looks out of place, then have the car's error code register read and see if anything pops there. After that, you will need to provide more info to get to a solution.
