cant get key out of my 2002 grand prix

i changed the shifter and wire harness to the shifter and key still wont come out of ignition
without using the manual button under the ignition. what else could be the problem?

I had the same problem with mine.Inside the column there is a ring gear which has a small tab on it,the tab has broken off,and is now interfering with the locking mechanism.I had to take mine to a steering column shop and have it fixed.It cost me $150.00.Hope this helps
