P0496

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. Last night we
started the car after eating and noticed that my tail
lights and my dash lights both weren’t working. We
parked my car at home, and then this morning we
ran a code sensor on it, and it popped up P0496.
Any ideas on what could be wrong?

The code doesn't have anything to do with lamps. At the rear tail lamps, with lites on, brown wire is voltage, black wire is ground. Use a test light and check them both. If good voltage and ground, suspect the headlamp assembly or wiring connector. If no voltage, there is a park lamp fuse and relay. As you can see, in the diagram, the headlamp switch and bcm are involved. You need to do some testing.
