my 96 pontiac grand am suddenly wouldnt start untill i got a jump srart but then when i started to drive off it was as thoe i had one foot pressed on the brake peddle and one foot pressed on the gas.

Sounds like the battery is bad. If you are able to keep the vehicle running like that means the alternator is still putting out, but it is a major strain on it. Have the battery & charging system checked.

If the car does not turn over without a jump, then the battery and charging system need to be checked. If the car turns over but does not start, then there are other issues. Sounds like the car runs, if it turns over then check the fuel pressure. Depending on what size engine you have fuel pressure should be either 30 to 44 lbs. or 38 to 55 lbs.
