intermittent washboard effect while driving

what would cause an intermittent washboard effect while driving at highway
speed? Vehicle has been setting up for 5 years.

Check struts and also tires for dry rot. Sounds like struts are blown out. If you push down on front or rear bumper forcefully . The car should compress then rebound to normal ride height in 1 motion. If it keeps bouncing or seems spongy replace the struts.
