slightly overheats when sitting still

Asked by GuruC3KBK Mar 13, 2019 at 01:34 PM about the 2001 Lincoln Town Car Signature

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So.. was in traffic for 3 hours a week ago and car started to overheat a little
(needle went slightly over the halfway mark).  Now... anytime I am sitting in
line to pick my child up from school or a really long red light, it does the
same.  I turn the heat on, and it goes back down.  When driving normal... it is
fine.  Any ideas?  I take her to the shop in a few days, don't want to damage
anything.  Thank you

The cooling system could be low on coolant. Check the overflow tank to see if it is near the full line. Another cause could be the cooling fans not working. That could be a bad relay or temp sending unit.
