I don't know what kind of shop would open a gas tank without draining and cleaning the tank. Because of that, you might have contamination and debris in your fuel. From the fuel being old, it might not allow your engine to run. And also, I wouldn't rule this out because of your shop, you might have a wire connection to your fuel sending unit that vibrated loose.

You should have taken it back to the shop and told them that they were going to pay for the repairs because they did not do the job as it should've been done. The manual says the pump shouldn't be replaced without removing the tank and draining the fuel. The shop should have paid for the repair because it would not have happened if they had done the job right. ( I sued one shop for a failed injection pump because the moron who changed it didn't read the instructions and left a dust plug in the cooling line for it.) They are liable (and should be insured) for their mistakes.
