reverse drum may be broken, i had the happen to an f150. the shifter problem is either a broken shifter shaft (under dash near the floor) or the bolts at the bottom of it are loose. hard to get to but not an expensive fix.

Is a reverse drum expensive ? Is it in the transmission ? Thanks for your help!

reverse drums are under $100 , and they are inside the tranny, so you would have to find a good mechanic that knows transmissions to do the work. when mine broke i took the truck to a transmission shop and had them rebuild it. it ran me about $660 , that way i had a warranty.

in the owners manual it says to turn to 1st pos. @ then put in neutral then it goes fine
