My Grand Cherokee issue

I was driving on the freeway and I lost the power to
the engine and the gas it turned back on once I
turned my jeep off and on I got off the freeway and
it did it again but now it won't turn on I have no
power steering now either

The same thing happened to me last night on the interstate i driving going about 85-90 and I noticed my engine light came on which it it did about a month ago and went back off one day So anyways the engine light Begin to flash so I turned down the music and then my 2005 Mazda 3 standard shift well of course I was in fifth gear the notice after the blanking of the engine light I heard a knocking noise as my car begin downgrade in speed I pulled over and the car just shut off and I Begin smoking from the tail pipe please help understand any other time is been running great
