2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4L 6 cyl at idle and running has low oil pressure

Asked by Jessi Nov 16, 2015 at 10:13 AM about the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I live in Colorado so I have been starting my jeep from cold temps every morning for the past month.  I have been allowing 5 to 10 mins for the car to warm up & I check the oil pressure & water temp gauges to be at good levels before driving.  I have noticed an oil smell when I get into the car.   Yesterday the oil pressure would not go past the L, even after sufficient "warm up" time. I have checked the oil level & it is fine.

Check your oil pressure sending unit, those tend to leak and send false readings to the gauges. It's a cheap part to replace (like $40). You could check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to the pressure sensor port to assess whether you do indeed have an oil pressure problem.
