Jeep EFI hard starting summer (warm) morning

Asked by FogTom Jul 19, 2018 at 06:12 AM about the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2001 Grand Cherokee EFI.  Problem started one day, not gradual.  My 1st
thought was battery but starts good after sitting in 85 deg parking lot all day.
Last 2 mornings all kinds of gyrations needed to get it to start, once it turns
over it is fine.  One point that I noticed, seems bizarre:  it resets my trip
odometer and clock on the aftermarket radio. So, my electrical system is
involved, just not sure how.  2nd point, no dash lites out of the ordinary.  I
have a code check/reset gizmo, I guess I should run that and see if it has
anything in memory.

Turns out it was my battery slowly going bad. I'm used to them falling off a cliff this time of year in the heat, you try it one morning and nothing. Nope. Battery failed test at Advance Auto, replaced. 3 solid days now no issues, it wasn't the check valve. Battery was dropping down to 0, that's what killed my odometer and clock.
