Jeep Grand Cherokee 1998 Overheating problems

Asked by Raul Feb 18, 2019 at 10:46 AM about the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 1998 V8 5.2L and I've been having issues with the cooling system, it was overheating so I did a radiator change, thermostat, antifreeze and even the hoses, but it still appears to overheat to the point where the temperature get to 260 and the check gauges light comes on, I don't know what else could it be, hope I can get some help here.

do you have any leaking under your heads if so you could have a blown head gasket if that isnt the case you might check just to see if there was a cut in one of cooling lines. i know you said you replaced them but you never know. also if you did this change your self you might want to make sure all the air is out of the system. one last thing and this is a rarity but you might have a plugged water jacket...its behind your water pump! your water pump might be going out too so we have several factors here 1. check your hoses again to be sure 2. see about air in the system 3. check your radiator cap to see if its holding pressure 4. last check your water pump it might have gone out/check water jackets if you take off water pump i might be wrong on some of this but this are part of the cooling system so let me know

actually I forgot to mention but with all of those repairs I also changed the water pump, I made sure to replace the little hose that goes to the engine, and I also placed some sealant, everything should be "good" with the water pump, but I also have to mention that the line for the heater core didn't fit just well at first and once I turned on the truck it started leaking, so what I did was I placed the line and added some of the blue silicone, and it stop leaking, I got that recommendation from a former mechanic. I don't know if that affected in some way or not, Thanks!
