I want to have an emergency portable car battery charger for my 6 cylinder
1997 JEEP Grand Cherokee Laredo. What voltage do I look for? I've seen
some for sale that are 600, 700, 750, 1200. What do I need?

I depends on your situation with your Jeep. If you don't drive it a lot and the battery gets too low to start the engine and you're in a hurry to get going, then you need a 12 volt, 6 to 10 AMP charger. Hooked up to a very low battery it will take about 20 to 30 minutes to charge it enough to start the engine. Left hooked up to the battery for a longer period it will tapper the charge back to about 2 AMPs to indicate the battery is near a full charge. If you want to use a charger to immediately start the engine it requires a more expensive higher Amperage charger that has a "Start" 20 AMP setting (Not Recommended, can be dangerous, more expensive). If you want to maintain the battery continually with the battery hooked up to a charger, then you need a "Maintainer" charger that produces a continuous 1 to 2 AMP charge ($30) and leave it plugged in all the time. Remove it when you want to drive.
If you are talking about a jump starter I recommend the Clore JNC 770.

Yes, looking for a jump starter. The Clore JNC 770 was also recommended to me by a auto shop guy I spoke with. Pricey! I was looking at Stanley 700 Peak/350 Instant amps. Would that be enough power? I don't have $130.00 bucks and the Stanley is $57.00.. Any thoughts?
They are not cheap but most of the other stuff are just toys. Compare the weights. The additional weight of the Clore is battery which means they have a much higher power capacity. My guess is the Stanley might work on smaller cars a couple of times before it dies. If you have a V8 you need a better jump starter. My Clore starts my V8 trucks and my diesel tractor. My wife has a Stanley it works (barely) on her Subaru with a 4 cylinder engine.

Oooh kay. Well, my JEEP is a 6 cylinder, and I really want it to work for a while, not barely SO, guess I'd better scrape together some more dough! Thanks again!
Good choice. The 700/350 Stanley my wife has is cheap and feels and operates like a toy. The charger (wall wart) is tiny and from the beginning the charge indicator lights stopped working. The Clore has heavy duty cables and clamps and a built in charger. I think the Clore would outlast 10 of the Stanley's and still be going strong.
Amazon has my 770 for $148 and a 660 for $130. They also have a JNC400 for $117 which could be a good choice for a 6 cylinder car.
