What is the towing capacity on the 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe, V6, front wheel drive, automatic transmission? I"ve heard conflicting reports. I have a pop up camper I'd like to drive down to FL, but I'm scared it could hurt the transmission which was replaced last summer.

My uncle has a 2004 model and it has a max towing capacity of 5000 but for good measure the trailer should not weight no more then 4800

I have an 01 with 4WD and I have towed quite a bit of weight with it. I do not remember the max trailer weight, maybe 3,500#, but if you find that it can handle the trailer, add an extra transmission cooler for added protection. Heat is what kills automatic transmissions when towing heavy loads.
