4wd wont engage 2004 gmc sierra 1500

Asked by wk65 Feb 02, 2015 at 02:00 PM about the 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 4 Dr SLE 4WD Extended Cab LB

4wd will not engage light blinks on 4 high then go back to 2wd.can hear it trying to engage but wont.never has a service 4wd apeared or any thing about 4wd.worked  on auto and 4wd high couple weeks ago.

Mine did the same thing last year. Replaced the transfer case switch, which didnt do anything. I found that i had a bad connection to the control module which is located infront of the passenger side door behind the plastic cover under the dash. It should just pop off. Then just jiggle the connection and press the button at the same time. And as always, make sure youre in neutral.

I actually have the same problem but mine does not blink at all. It just stays on the 2wd light

My light comes on and when i.go to switch it to 4h or4low it blinks and goes back to 2 wheel drive what could it be
