1999 gmc 4.8 mass air flow

I believe my mass air flow is going? when I start the truck it is searching for idle and will stall.
is this a sign of the maf going?

Maf sensor should cause your check engine light to come on. But if no check engine light I would consider dirty/faulty idle air control valve or dirty throttle plate. The iac will not always thro a check engine light code.
