Why is my truck having issues starting and stalling at stops?

this morning, my 1993 GMC c1500 standard cab with the V6 4.3L engine,
had issues starting up. I went to crank it and the dash lit up and the turned
off, the whole truck turned off. I attempted to crank 3 more times and nothing
happened when engaging the key. then I wiggled the batter cables and then
started the truck back up and it started running. Then driving it down the
road to the stop sign, it stalled and died at full stop. But the batter level gage
on  the dash was reading 14v off the battery. Does anyone know or
understand what the issue might be. I juggling between the wiring harness
and the alternator, but at the same time I'm not sure what the issue is.
Please help.
