My flex plate is in backwards, is that possible?

I had the flex plate replaced and the starter works for a while and then starts grinding, had the starter replaced thinking that was bad and the guy told me the flexplate is in backwards

Yes it is possible. The flex plate is sometimes marked with the weight and which side faces the engine.
