My 2006 Ford explorer won't start, it makes a weird clicking sound help!

I started the car and had about 1/4 tank of gas, I stopped because I forgot something in the house and the when I tried to drive off it shut down. I thought it was the battery so I hooked up my cables to my other vehicle and it wouldn't start, it just kept making a clicking noise when I tried to start it. The explorer has over 200k miles on it but it was running okay until this incident. Does anyone know what it could be?
