on my 2006 explorer when push 4x4 H button the only different that light will come on, nothing else. I did check transfer case shifting motor, it moves in between two positions, never stops in the middle. My guess is that 4X4H always on. I know for a fact 4X4L is working.

Four high is smooth and you may not notice a difference except when trying to make a sharp turn on pavement. Don't drive in 4-high on dry pavement as you will ruin your transfer case. If you have the auto 4x4 setting use that when driving on the road and save the 4wd for ice and snow or mud.

Thanks! one more question. When car set to 4x4 auto how do front wheels get engaged to transfer case, in what stage of the mechanism, starting front shaft to hub assy? some older cars I realize the hub assy is the case for engagement.

My 2012 Ford Explorer gives me the message "shift to park" when I turn off the car. The car is fully in park.
